No More Paper Car Tax Discs
From October 1st 2014, the UK will no longer use paper tax discs. Of course a vehicle will still have to be taxed but it will all be recorded electronically and you won’t need to display an actual disc in your windscreen.
It also means that refunds of duty if you sell the car of take it off the road is done automatically and you can also start to pay by monthly direct debit in most circumstances from 1st November if that makes budgeting easier for you.
It also means that any car you buy must be taxed at the time by you, any existing tax will not be transferred over to you as the new owner. The basics are laid out in this article for you www.gov.uk/government/news/vehicle-tax-changes but please do check with DVLA if you are in any way unsure about the status of your vehicle.
